Job Description

Interlochen is seeking an experienced and dedicated singer-songwriter to continue the development and implementation a new curricular program designed to instruct talented and motivated high school students in the discipline of popular music songwriting.  This program leads students to creative approaches to popular musical composition by developing skills in melody, harmony, arranging, and lyric writing, while seeking to nurture a distinct individual writing and performance style.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


The successful candidate will maintain an active studio of private singer-songwriter students.  He or she will teach lyric writing, digital composition, performance practice, studio seminar and private song development lessons.  Faculty are also responsible for helping to prepare students for college and conservatory auditions and are expected to take a leading role in recruiting efforts to maintain an outstanding private studio.  All faculty are expected to participate in a variety of student and campus activities. 

Qualifications

A Music degree or performance equivalent, with substantial professional performance and demonstrated teaching expertise is required. The successful candidate must be able to create an exciting and challenging teaching and performing environment that fosters a successful learning atmosphere.  Significant experience, both as a performer and teacher who understands the needs and capabilities of young, developing, high caliber singer-songwriter performers at the high school or college level will be an essential quality of the ideal candidate.  Interlochen expects its performance faculty to establish and maintain national visibility and credibility for both themselves and their studios. Excellent guitar teaching and performing skills, fluency in the use of music technology tools and recording equipment, and a high level of professional organization are essential.
