Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts boarding high school, offers the highest quality artistic training combined with comprehensive college-preparatory academics. The Academy also offers post-graduate opportunities.

 

Interlochen Arts Camp

Young artists from around the world gather at Interlochen each summer to learn, create and perform alongside leading artists and instructors. Programs are offered to students in grades three through twelve.

 

Interlochen College of Creative Arts

Adult artists thrive on opportunities to learn and express themselves creatively. The College of Creative Arts offers programs in a variety of arts disciplines. Interlochen College was created as an opportunity to engage creative adults of all ages, from those who have always wanted to experience the arts, to avocational artists with various levels of experience, to arts professionals. ICCA is housed in the Mallory-Towsley Center for Arts Leadership, a beautifully renovated facility with three classrooms; a 2400 sq. ft. Great Room outfitted with state-of-the-art projection, audio, and video conferencing equipment; a kitchen and break room; and two lobbies that provide views to both the main campus and the encircling woods.

Streaming online at ipr.interlochen.org.  Through two listener-supported broadcast services, Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) connects northwest Michigan with arts, news and culture on a global scale. IPR also gives significant focus to local and regional news, information and artists.

 

Interlochen Presents

Interlochen brings dozens of world-renowned artists to northwest Michigan, enhancing the region’s position on the global arts map. Interlochen presents more than 600 events each year by students, faculty and guest artists, making Interlochen one of the nation’s largest arts presenters.

Job Description

The Director will provide leadership in expanding a comprehensive adult education program serving creative adults, arts professionals, and experienced avocational artists. The Director will be responsible for managing existing programs, assessing their effectiveness, and creating new programs that integrate with Interlochen’s six major arts areas (music, theater, visual art, creative writing, dance, and motion picture arts), the arts festival, public media, and among the many local, regional, and national partner organizations that present a broad range of opportunities to reach new constituencies and consumers, both on campus and through media, virtual and off-site opportunities.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President for Media and Engagement, the Director will:

 

  • Understand the unique nature of adult and continuing educational needs, from the professional development of teachers to Elderhostel, wellness and healing, exploratory to advanced performing capabilities.

  • Create the vision and develop a strategic, entrepreneurial, and focused plan for adult and continuing education opportunities.

  • Be able to utilize Interlochen’s internal assets — artistic and educational leadership, arts camp, academy, public broadcasting, and festival — as well as support operations (marketing, scheduling, communications) to promote and grow the program.

  • Be capable of building strong partnerships and relationships with key ICA artistic and educational leaders that lead to program development and continuity.

  • Demonstrate skills and capacities in a progressive series of positions that provide evidence of leadership and experience appropriate for the position.

  • Work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment with faculty, staff, and alumni to best serve multiple constituents.

  • Communicate effectively and be skilled at organizing and planning while having the creative and entrepreneurial abilities to explore new possibilities and programs.

  • Understand or have experience with the role of media, new communication technologies, and virtual education to expand Interlochen College outside of the campus to other locations.

  • Understand the benefits, as well as the limitations, of working in a non-profit environment in which there are competing demands for resources.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must conceive, plan, articulate and lead all aspects of the adult and continuing education program. Candidates must possess at least a bachelor’s, and preferably a master’s degree, in a field of education or the arts, or a combination of a degree in a field related to the position, i.e. arts or education administration, marketing, public relations or communications, with work and leadership experience in education in an arts, education or cultural institution.
