Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts boarding high school, offers the highest quality artistic training combined with comprehensive college-preparatory academics. The Academy also offers post-graduate opportunities.

Interlochen Arts Camp

Young artists from around the world gather at Interlochen each summer to learn, create and perform alongside leading artists and instructors. Programs are offered to students in grades three through twelve.

Interlochen brings dozens of world-renowned artists to northwest Michigan, enhancing the region’s position on the global arts map. Interlochen presents more than 600 events each year by students, faculty and guest artists, making Interlochen one of the nation’s largest arts presenters.

Job Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance and fine arts is seeking to hire a Visiting Instructor of Horn. This part time contracted position is open for the 2014-2015 academic year (renewable) at the Interlochen Arts Academy. 

The successful candidate will recruit and maintain an active studio of private horn students. Performance faculty members are responsible for preparing students for college and conservatory auditions.  They are also expected to take a leading role in recruiting efforts to maintain an outstanding studio.  Interlochen Center for the Arts values a collegial atmosphere, and the ability to work well within the music department is essential.  All faculty members are expected to participate in a variety of student and campus activities as well as other work appropriate to the ICA mission.

Qualifications

A Master of Music degree or performance equivalent in Horn, with substantial professional performance and demonstrated teaching expertise is required. The successful candidate must be able to create an exciting and challenging teaching and performing environment that fosters a successful learning atmosphere.  Significant experience as a private teacher of both solo and chamber repertoire, and an understanding of the needs and capabilities of young, developing, high caliber performers at the high school or college level will be an essential quality of the ideal candidate.  Interlochen expects performance faculty to establish and maintain national visibility and credibility for themselves and their studios through frequent performance on and off campus.

Compensation: 

A competitive salary and benefits including Flex and 403(b) is being offered, salary will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
