Job Description

Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, the Sr. Manager of Revenue Accounting will be responsible for leading and managing the execution of all aspects of the order-to-cash cycle. This includes order management and bookings reporting, billings, credit & collections, and the month-end revenue close cycle.  

This new role will be responsible for the company wide revenue recognition policy, processes and reporting. We are looking for a high-energy, hands-on individual that has the ability to work independently providing advanced technical accounting expertise in support of the company’s revenue drivers and initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Review revenue contracts to ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with revenue recognition rules under GAAP. Review draft contract and customer orders for potential revenue recognition issues.
  • Interpret revenue arrangements, prepare revenue checklists, assess and summarize revenue implications, and document conclusions on revenue recognition treatment for arrangements in accordance with US GAAP or IFRS where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Legal, Sales Operations, and Deal Desk in developing deal structure for appropriate revenue recognition and corporate strategy and processing orders to ensure proper revenue recognition treatment.
  • Partner with the FP&A team to ensure that revenue forecasts are accurate by providing visibility into recognized revenue, maintaining deferred revenue waterfalls, reviewing the translation of bookings backlog into revenue, and other similar activities.
  • Ownership of revenue and other reporting in multiple forms, including analytic analysis and disclosure requirements comparable with that of a public company.
  • Actively participate in monthly and quarterly close activities including reconciliations of all revenue and deferred revenue accounts as well as cut-off procedures.
  • Develop, maintain and update internal control documentation and support for audits of related controls.
  • Review and improve full Order to Cash cycle.
  • Manage monthly billing arrangements including new orders, upgrades, downgrades and cancellations.
  • Ensure that internal collections processes are developed to hit target DSO’s.
  • Take ownership and drive the successful implementation of software revenue recognition automation.
  • Participate in review of new product offerings and coordinate introduction of new offerings into financial systems.
  • Manage preparation of sales commissions.
  • Develop and deliver software revenue/SaaS recognition education to Financial and Sales internal stakeholders to drive awareness/understanding.
  • Develop and apply revenue recognition policies and procedures and assist in documenting the accounting guidance for revenue generating activities.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant accounting rules (e.g. SAB 104, ASC 605-25 [including ASU 2009-13, ASU 2009-14 (f.k.a. EITF 08-1, EITF 09-3)], ASC 985-605 (SOP 97-2) relating to software, SaaS and services revenue recognition and multiple-element arrangements.
  • Prepare Fair Value (VSOE, BESP) analysis of historical sales activities for purposes of proper revenue allocation to multiple-element arrangements. Collaborate with the other Finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • CPA Required; Big 4 audit experience required.
  • 4 year degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in revenue accounting related functions.
  • Experience in Order-To-Cash processes (customer setup, order processing, service delivery, billing, collections).
  • Accounting experience in a multi-country/currency or publicly-traded company preferred.
  • Strong financial systems background (NetSuite, Zuora, SalesForce.com, etc.).
  • Ability to mine, manipulate and analyze large quantities of data.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance.
  • Ability to write and document accounting processes.
  • Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing, with senior and functional department managers.
  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with advanced Excel skills.
  • Serve as an effective business partner to the executive management team.
  • A team player with the ability to develop strong relationships and leverage internal and external alliances.
  • Creative, proactive and forward thinking. An individual who looks for opportunities to drive continuous improvement.
