The Federation’s Annual Campaign raises approximately $3 million to support programs, initiatives and organizations critical to a strong Jewish community. Our goal is to create a cutting edge, donor-centric next generation Federation. The Jewish Community Foundation, a $125 million charitable organization houses endowment funds that benefit the Jewish Community Federation and other local Jewish non-profit organizations. The Foundation also holds more than 200 donor-advised funds and is the umbrella for nearly a dozen supporting foundations. 

Job Description

The Director of Accounting is responsible for assisting in overseeing the General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions including, A/R, A/P and Investments. H/she is responsible for maintaining a system that ensures that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).The Senior Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

• Assists in the oversight of the general accounting function which includes inter-organization accounting, cash management and investment reconciliation, financial reporting and balance sheet management.
• Ensures that company financial records are maintained in compliance with US GAAP and applicable regulatory agencies. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
• Assists in the preparation of periodic financial statements.
• Assists in ensuring the computer system(s) continue to operate as required. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements are met.
• Assist in coordinating work for external audits and any other periodic review of the organization financial records. Is responsible for the implementation of any agreed upon changes resulting from audits and/or changes in the regulatory environment.

Qualifications

  •  Degree in Accounting
  •  4-7 years of accounting experience
  •  Strong knowledge of US GAAP, FASB and financial reporting required
  •  Investment Reconciliation
  •  Knowledge of fund accounting
  •  Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
