The Jewish Federation of the East Bay and The Jewish Community Foundation are dedicated to building a vibrant and inclusive local Jewish community and to enhancing the well-being of Jews in the East Bay, Israel, and throughout the world. The Federation’s Annual Campaign raises approximately $3 million to support programs, initiatives and organizations critical to a strong Jewish community. Our goal is to create a cutting edge, donor-centric next generation Federation. The Jewish Community Foundation, a $125 million charitable organization houses endowment funds that benefit the Jewish Community Federation and other local Jewish non-profit organizations. The Foundation also holds more than 200 donor-advised funds and is the umbrella for nearly a dozen supporting foundations. 

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a talent for conceptualizing and storyboarding, persuasive writing, storytelling, digital marketing, public relations, and interviewing. A successful candidate for this position will write marketing content; develop content under our brand; create copy for appeals, speeches, press releases and media kits; and support a variety of events and programs that tell the story of Federation. The Federation is seeking a talented, creative, analytical, proactive, detail-oriented individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment.


The Copyrighter & Content Strategist will work on all facets of marketing writing, including drafting copy for website, advertising, blog, press releases, bios, annual reports, e-mails, direct mail appeals; coordinating with internal departments to ensure consistent and effective messaging that supports agency goals, objectives, values and brand recognition, while writing copy that is smart, accurate, and embodies the Federation voice. The candidate will work collaboratively with the Marketing Director and Graphic Designer on projects, and work with Federation’s strategic partners to bring our collective story to life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with the Marketing Director to develop, execute, and measure impact of copy and stories within the greater marketing strategy.

• Work as part of a production team to develop copy for all Federation marketing collateral that’s consistent with the current branding platform.

• Identify impactful stories and messages, and help build strategies to increase Federation’s brand stake and identity in the community.

• Develop newsletters, website content, brochure copy, speeches, correspondence, and reports.

• Reporting (finding the right stories to tell) and writing (documenting them in concise and powerful messaging).

• Work with the Marketing Director and other internal departments to create strategic plans for stories and other public relations materials that will increase awareness of Federation initiatives.

• Write and distribute creative pitches and releases for media outlets.

• Communicate with and help grow our social media communities.

• Research and create targeted copy for e-blasts, social media, blogs and website for targeted groups.

• Serve as the internal copyeditor for Federation staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in marketing/communications, journalism or public relations

• Superior talent for writing compelling copy and expressing complex ideas clearly

• Knowledge of AP Style

• Social media skills (Facebook, Twitter, blogging)

• Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time and meet deadlines

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience working with web-based content management and social media platforms


Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of East Bay’s Jewish community

• Non-profit experience
