Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Manager Director of KIPP Through College & Career (KTCC) will support KIPP DC alumni in pursuing their goals after they leave KIPP DC.  For students who graduate from a KIPP DC middle school, the KTCC program will support them through high school.  For all students, KTCC will support students in applying to college, applying for career opportunities, and persevering through whatever path they choose..  The leader of KTCC must be a strategic thinker and planner to lead the KTCC program as well as the many professionals who make up the KTCC team. The Managing Director will be a leader in the planning process to set a vision for the team and alumni supports over the next five years. The leader of KTCC is an exempt position and it reports to the Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

Overall Leadership

  • Develop and lead implementation of vision for KTCC, including setting goals, determining strategy, investing the KTCC team in achieving the vision, and leading KIPP DC’s relationship with alumni

  • Monitor progress against critical milestones and creating strategic opportunities to align and analyze KIPP DC school data with alumni outcomes data. 

  • Serve as a leader at KIPP DC, who connects the KTCC work to other priorities and vice versa, including working collaboratively with KIPP DC senior leaders to create cohesive regional alignment, especially between KIPP DC's high school programs and KTCC's alumni support efforts 

  • Represents KTCC work and alumni to external partners in DC and around the country, including fundraising for KTCC scholarships and programming

 

High School Support - 20%

  • Oversee Deputy Director and team that organizes and provides direct services to alumni currently in high schools outside of the KIPP DC network.

  • Ensure regular communication with high school alumni and provide regular supports and intervention as needed

  • Support alumni as the apply for college and/or career options, including college counseling, campus visits, guidance on scholarship applications, and other supports

  • Build partnerships with high schools to ensure smooth transitions for KIPP DC alumni

  • Build strong alumni relationships with students and families, so that KIPP DC can advocate on behalf of students and provide resources where necessary

  • Track all alumni information, including reports cards, IEP needs, contact information, while ensuring student confidentiality

 

College Support - 20%

  • Oversee Deputy Director and team that organize and provide direct services to alumni in college

  • Ensure regular communication with alumni in college and provide regular supports and intervention as needed

  • Support alumni in advocating for their needs, including accommodations, tutoring, and resources

  • Build partnerships with colleges to ensure strong transitions for KIPP DC alumni

  • Build strong alumni relationships with students and families, so that KIPP DC can advocate on behalf of students and provide resources where necessary

  • Track all alumni information, including reports cards, IEP needs, contact information, while ensuring student confidentiality

 

Career Support - 20%

  • Oversee staff who provide support to alumni pursuing career options after high school

  • Support development of partnerships that lead to career opportunities for alumni, including NAF academies and Cityworks

  • Build partnerships with internship programs and employers 

 

 Team and Program Management - 20%

  • Lead development of team vision, goals, and performance expectations

  • Provide regular feedback, both celebrations and constructive feedback for team members to achieve team goals

  • Organize professional development opportunities

  • Managing KTCC’s budget

  • Manage contracts, vendors and partnerships paid for by KTCC

 

KTCC Partnerships - 20%

  • Serve as the KIPP DC representative for KIPP Through College and Career to other KIPP regions and the foundation

  • Oversee Bottoms UP Goals and other regional goals shared with KIPP Foundation 

  • Serve as a leader in the college and career space in the DC education community

  • Serve as a resource to school leaders on best practice for college counseling

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 7 years of experience required (10 years preferred), with three of those years involving work with schools and principals

  • At least 5 years of experience serving as a manager and team leader preferred

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Experience in higher education preferred, familiarity with college admissions and college counseling required

  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Passion for education and the belief that every child can succeed; experience in K12 education strongly preferred

  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families

  • Documented ability to manage complex projects with competing timelines

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail

  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills

  • Flexibility, tenacity, ability to produce high-quality work, resourcefulness, and willingness to work well with a team

  • Knowledge of local and federal school health requirements a plus 

  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

  • Experience with Salesforce and PowerSchool is a plus
