Job Description

Position Overview

KIPP St. Louis is seeking a Substitute School Nurse who is a certified LPN or RN to substitute as a School Nurse when needed. The Substitute Nurse will provide substitute coverage in our six schools, elementary, middle, and high school. The Substitute Nurse will be on call and work is dependent upon school needs.

Position type: On Call, Non Exempt, Temporary (dependent on school district needs)

On a day-to-day basis, you can look forward to the following:

  • Create and maintain a friendly and highly efficient office
  • Increase accuracy and completion of student records metrics to 100% compliance
  • Insure 100% of students have up-to-date immunization records by 10/1 each year
  • Ensure all staff are aware of major health needs (allergies, chronic issues, etc.)
  • Keep clear, organized records that can be easily interpreted by others
  • Utilize the nursing process components of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to care for ill children during the school day
  • Care of chronic illnesses and care and prevention of illnesses
  • Ensure proper administration, storage, and inventory of prescription and nonprescription medications
  • Make referrals and maintain up-to-date contact information for primary, urgent and emergent medical and dental care service providers as needed
  • Regular communication with parents including the request of medication refills to ensure students always have medication on hand
  • Create and maintain individual healthcare plans each school year for students with medical concerns (e.g. asthma, seizure disorder, diabetes, etc.)
  • Create and update Medical 504 Plans for students with health concerns that require classroom accommodations
  • Conduct annual Vision and Hearing Screenings
  • Meet as a member of IEP and 504 teams, gather information and input for intervention strategies
  • Maintain individual student health folders
  • Update and capture student immunization records list
  • Serve as a member of the enrollment team to ensure all scholars have up-to-date immunizations on the first day of school
  • Recordkeeping and compliance with all state health regulations and requirements including reporting immunization status to the region and state

Qualifications

What you should have...

  • Registered by the state of Missouri to practice Nursing
  • LPN or RN (REQUIRED)
  • Two years’ work experience as a Nurse; experience as a Pediatric or School Nurse preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  •  Dedication to helping children grow and learn
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time

What we bring to the table: Compensation

The School Nurse must be registered by the state of Missouri to practice Nursing. Substitute School Nurse pay is dependent on the certification license the Nurse holds. 

  • LPNs are paid $225 per day
  • RNs are paid $265 per day
