DESCRIPTION This position is responsible for complete polysomnographic care of medically stable individuals 11 years of age and over. These duties include but are not limited to the scoring and collection of polysomnographic data and entering the data into the computer; preparation of patients for recordings; assurance of patients safety and comfort; and maintaining instruments and equipment. The Scoring technologist represents the professionalism of the sleep laboratory and will welcome patients courteously to the Sleep Center. This position performing MWT or MSLT studies will explain the procedure to the patient and prepare them for the procedure. Tests will be performed under generally accepted guidelines set forth. Application of electrodes will be done according to the international 10/20 system of measurement. A handbook of this system is available to the technologist at the Sleep Center. Scoring of data will be performed according to Rechtschaffen and Kales manual entitled A Manual of Standardized Terminology, Techniques, and Scoring System for Sleep Stages of Human Subjects under the Medical Directorship of the Sleep Center. Adherence to Sleep Center Policy and Procedures manual is mandatory for this position. EDUCATION REQUIRED: Education, training and/or experience in the field of Sleep Medicine EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Training and/or experience in the field of Sleep Medicine. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to use computer. Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to other team members. Knowledge of age specific competencies and procedures and diagnostic testing in non-acute care setting of adult and geriatric patients. Ability to discern color, sound. Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude when relating to patients and families. Ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize work, accept guidance, and apply previous healthcare experience to current job classification as it applies. In our industry, firm size matters.
