Job Description

Optimize the use of the system across the Region in order to achieve high priority goals in clinical care and business outcomes. Diligent and conscientious attention to user needs; partnerships with National and Vendor Systems in the continued development and enhancement of the system; apply medical systems to meet problem-oriented and opportunity-driven objectives; collaborate with all departments requiring LIS support for production support, SOX compliance, and regional projects; and coordinate system change events. This position requires the incumbent to travel throughout the region as necessary addressing system concerns.


Essential Responsibilities:

Operational and Informatics Expertise:

  • Provide operational and information systems expertise in the analysis, development, training, testing, optimization and application of KP Healthconnect, business, and clinical systems
  • As the subject matter expert in functionality and Cerner et al modules, collaborate in the provision of information to regional leadership, clinicians, staff, brokers, employers, professional organizations and vendors including Cerner et al Systems Corporation.
  • Project Management:
  • Function as the lead in the resolution of complex production problems and enhancements in the Cerner et al systems.
  • Collaborate with work teams, departments, regional leadership, clinicians, staff, and information technology to define needs, facilitate agreements and decisions.  
  • Plan execution of small projects including user communication, support and post implementation review.
  • Application and Interface Enhancements/Development:
  • Assess customer needs, research options, support analysis, design, and test and implement application solutions.
  • Examples of this work include: (1) develop tools to meet specific department, team or strategic needs; (2) create tools that optimize the decision support capabilities of Cerner et al; (3) identify and define requirements to improve the human-computer interface; (4) develop application interface solutions to meet informational needs of customers.
  • System Configuration, Build, Installation and Monitoring:
  • Configure, build and/or correct complex features and new modules for integration with installed Epic applications.  
  • Plan and Lead in relevant workflow sessions and manage resulting workflow changes.  
  • Direct configuration activities in Cerner et al systems to resolve problems escalated to the Laboratory IS Operations department.
  • Set up and test configuration to resolve complex patient safety problems modifications and enhancement.  
  • Build, maintain and update application master files and category lists to ensure data integrity and maintain synchronization with Enterprise and Vendor updates
  • On Call rotation for 24X7 support.  Responsible for solving critical and high incident support/ patient safety issues under stressful outage situations  
  • Works w/ the test team through development & implementation.  
  • System Testing, Training, and Deployment:
  • To sustain efficient current and future functionality, provide expert operational and information system expertise for new version upgrades, optimization of current functionality, and incorporation of new modules in the Cerner et al business and clinical systems.
  • As the subject matter expert, test complex system changes, develop training materials, assess workflow impact and solutions, and manage deployment.
  • QA test script development, test data validation, test results analysis, defect and problem resolution and identification of problem fix.
  • Communicates system changes to the end user and training staff.
  • Manage Release Notes and Change Requests:
  • Review, analyze and recommend implementation of release notes as received from Cerner et al.
  • Analyze Change Requests for impact of change and costs.
  • Communicate changes to business partners and assist with implementation of change.
  • Mentors other technical analysts on troubleshooting issues of intermediate to advanced complexity & creating system.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in health care administration, information systems, business, a health care profession, library science, or information resource management
  • Education
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • Cerner et al Certification in at least 1 major modules required. (CoPath or PathNet)
  • Certified/Proficient in 2 Cerner suite et al modules or application sup-components (Build & Maintain, Charge Services, Outreach, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.)

  • Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated skills in complex project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large multidisciplinary teams through influence and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications in business settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, and results orientation.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to Scope and estimate small enhancements.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years using at least one of the Cerner suite et al of application products and/or completion of Cerner et al certification in an application(s) preferred.
  • Two (2) years MT (ASCP) or equivalent bench experience preferred.  
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience at Kaiser Permanente preferred.
  • Experience on at least 1 major system implementation preferred.
  • Knowledge of functional areas and/ or systems analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of research and analyses /design preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a large multidisciplinary project to successful completion preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution preferred.
  • Public speaking skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with office software, e.g., Power Point, Excel, Word and/or MS Project, Visio preferred.
  • Direct experience implementing business information systems in KP region preferred.
  • One System go-live / version upgrade project lead in two or more Cerner application (General Laboratory, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Charge Services, Reference Laboratory, Medical Device Interfaces, Foreign System Interfaces, and/or Reporting preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Information Systems or HealthCare Administration
  • Advanced degree in medical informatics, computer science or a related health care field.
  • Certification in Cerner CoPath and/or Cerner Pathnet.   Experience Cerner Pathnett Gen Lab and MIcrobiology and Reference Laboratory OR Cerner Pathnet Gen Lab and Cerner CoPath and Charge Services OR Cerner Pathnet Gen Lab and Blood Bank and Medical Device Interfaces.  
  • Experience leading a Cerner deployment or upgrade.
