Job Description

Overall Results Expected    To produce accurate, timely, well-structured estimates that result in project wins for the company.  This includes producing quantity take off’s for self-performed work; preparing preliminary pricing information for self-performed work and coordinating with subcontractors on their bids to ensure coverage and timely delivery of the total bid.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Review all drawings, general conditions and project specifications prior to preparing a bid with the objective of getting to know the project scope and its unique characteristics thoroughly

 

  • Coordinate with other members of the estimating team, to ensure a shared understanding of all information relevant to the production of a timely,  accurate, winning bid

 

  • Accurately interpret drawings and technical specifications in order to perform quantity take off calculations for assigned projects; layout the data on a spreadsheet and ensure it is accurately entered into the Timberline system

 

  • Conduct preliminary material pricing and labor costing for project scope that will be self-performed

 

  • Identify appropriate subcontractors for participation on assigned projects; seek their participation in the bidding process; review the scope and quality of their submitted bids

 

  • Post project award, ensure that all relevant project information uncovered through the bidding process is expeditiously and accurately transferred to the project supervisory staff

 

  • Ensure that ISO document control and procedure guidelines are closely adhered to throughout the bidding process

 

  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with members of our subcontracting community to facilitate the company’s ability to draw subcontractor participation in bids as needed

 

  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned in support of our company’s effort to achieve client loyalty

Qualifications

    • Two-year degree in Engineering (Civil preferred) or Construction Technology

 

    • Minimum five years hands-on experience in the commercial construction field with practical experience in estimating large, complex commercial projects in a hard bid environment.  A minimum of two years field experience, as an engineer, foreman or superintendent on large, complex, commercial projects is a strong plus

 

    • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in the event that either does not meet stated requirement

 

    • Strong skills in mathematics and a sharp memory

 

    • Ability to “build” the project in your mind – imagine what it takes to get the desired results and then quantify those items

 

    • Demonstrated excellence in problem solving; ability to view a problem or issue from multiple perspectives, evaluate options, often with limited information and make effective decisions

 

    • A demonstrated commitment to exceeding client expectations in the delivery of quality, cost-efficient and timely service

 

    • A strong detail orientation and a commitment to producing work that is accurate the first time

 

    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks demanding of immediate attention, and to juggle multiple, on-going, concurrent responsibilities

    • Competency in the following computer programs:  MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel; prior experience in Timberline or other estimating program is a plus
