Job Description

The Communications Associate provides support to all functions of the Advocacy and Communications Office in its efforts to raise the profile of Mary's Center.  Primary responsibilities include supporting the Director of Advocacy and Communications in promoting the Center through the creation of content for the website, social media, internal and external newsletters and general publications of the Center.  The position will also involve editing articles and informational documents for the President and CEO as well as managing her calendar. Responsibilities include writing and editing newsletters, press releases, speeches, letters and other publications, managing the organization’s social media accounts, generate content for and update the website, and support the Development Team’s planning of the annual gala and other donor cultivation events.

Reportability:

The Communications Associate reports directly to the Director of Advocacy and Communications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Generate content for and update Mary’s Center’s website
  2. Manage Mary’s Center’s social media accounts
  3. Promote Mary’s Center online via neighborhood listservs
  4. Write and edit letters, press releases, speeches, and other external communications
  5. Maintain all communication outlets within Mary’s Center updated and clutter-free
  6. Design, create, edit, and send monthly external e-newsletter
  7. Support the Development Team’s planning of the annual gala and other donor cultivation events
  8. Work with graphic designers and other vendors to create signage and print materials
  9. Support the calendar of the President and CEO and assist with communication requests

Education and/or Experience – undergraduate college degree and a minimum of one year of communications or related experience; a strong interest in the organization's mission; English-Spanish bilingual preferred, but not required; excellent writing and editing skills; the ability to work effectively in teams and across organizational lines; and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. 

Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately-complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary

Physical Demands – Regularly required sitting; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment – Mostly in a typical office setting with quite to moderate noise level.
