Job Description

The Medical Assistant III’s role is to assure smooth clinical flow, and assist healthcare clinicians and front office staff in providing primary care services to children and families. The Medical Assistant III acts as a team leader, demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and assists in planning, implementing, and assessing patient care.


REPORTABILITY:

The MA III reports to the Nurse Manager for a designated area.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Performs all duties as described under Job Description for MA I and MA II**.

• Assist the care team with health education, prior authorization, discharge instructions, and other necessary paperwork for optimal patient care.

• Assist the Medical Providers in obtaining any necessary clinical patient information, such as lab results, diagnostic tests performed, hospital summaries imaging results, discharge summaries, and current medications.

• Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Clinical Supervisor, Nurse Manager, and Medical Providers to provide patients with lab and imaging results, as well as respond to medical requests by patients and outside entities.  

• Provide any support required by the Medical Provider, while functioning within the role of a MAIII, in order to ensure optimal patient care. This includes, but is not limited to, answering mail and faxing forms.

• Coordinate with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator and Medical Provider in developing and implementing a patient’s plan of care.

• Assist with the clinic’s vaccine program and specialty pharmaceutical services. 

• Assist Nursing Leadership in leading Medical Assistants. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and coordinating schedules, assisting with evaluations, and providing education.

• Performs other duties as necessary and may rotate to other sites as determined by Nursing Leadership at the clinic. 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience – Minimum of High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Must possess minimum of 3 (three) years of experience in direct patient care and/or medical assistant certificate. Experience working in community health setting with immigrant populations and/or maternal-child health preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or other languages preferred. A thorough understanding and working knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations is essential.


Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately-complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary 


Physical Demands – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work Environment – Mostly in a typical medical office setting with quite to moderate noise level. May be exposed to potentially-hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluid.
