Company Description

Mary's Center is a federally qualified health center that served over 35,000 men, women and children in 2014. We provide comprehensive health, dental, social, and education services to underserved, underinsured, and uninsured individuals in the D.C. metropolitan region. Our mission is to build better futures through the offering of these services. We embrace culturally diverse communities and provide them with the highest quality of care, regardless of ability to pay.

Briya Public Charter School (Briya) serves as the Education Department of Mary’s Center. Briya provides a year-round, dual-generation family literacy program to over 500 immigrant families annually. Starting from the critical years of infancy, Briya combats generational cycles of under-education and poverty through a two generation model that provides children with high-quality early childhood education classes, helps parents foster their children’s language and literacy skills from birth, and simultaneously provides parents with the critical literacy and job skills needed to sustain a career. The family literacy model includes infant and toddler care, pre-kindergarten, and adult education/family literacy classes with wrap around comprehensive health and social services. The adult education component includes English as a Second Language, digital literacy, parenting classes as well as Parent and Child Together (PACT) time. Briya also provides workforce development options for parents including Child Development Associate (CDA) credential training,  Medical Assistant training, and a  National External Diploma Program to provide adult learners with a high school diploma. In addition to a long tradition of partnering with Mary’s Center (since 1996), Briya also collaborates with several community organizations to enhance and supplement classroom learning. Briya is a high performing charter school, regularly meeting 100% of our Public Charter School Board accountability plan targets for both adult education and early childhood education.
