Position title: Senior Network Engineer

Location: London, UK

As Maxymiser continues to expand, an opportunity has a risen for a Senior Network Engineer to join the Platform Operations team based in London. You will be required to manage key components of Maxymiser’s globally distributed platform infrastructure, ensuring high availability/performance SLAs are met. You will also participate in the design of Maxymiser’s platform architecture (including networking/system provisioning and software configuration), provide input/challenge platform software engineering solutions from deployment, system management and deployment automation perspectives, and automate our platform component deployment/software configuration processes.

In addition to this the ideal candidate will regularly deploy new platform releases into production, design and perform regular stress/load/performance testing of the platform, participate in providing a 24x7x365 problem troubleshooting/technical support capability for enterprise clients globally and also provide senior technical leadership by being conversant with current and emerging web based technologies, understanding their impact upon the Maxymiser platform and how these developments can be exploited.

Responsibilities:

Systems Management

• Design and management of key platform components to support Maxymiser distributed product platform (Network and Systems)

• Deployment of platform components and application components

• Software configuration management implementation in line with Change Management policy

• System Change Management policy and enforcement through monitoring, auditing and reporting systems

• Maintain deployment architecture/system build documentation

• Participate in creation of the capacity plan and business continuity processes

• Maintain a secure platform and demonstrate using appropriate tools (Pen Testing, IDS, etc.)

Team Management

• No direct team management

• Collaboration with Platform Operations and Development team members to deliver cohesive solutions

Requirements:

• Design, operation and management of globally distributed platform supporting high throughput, low latency applications

• Design, operation and management of distributed networking systems in a secure environment

• Design, operation and management of virtualised platforms and cloud based systems

• Experience of managing BigData/understanding BigData challenges is highly desirable

• Direct experience of providing 24x7x365 support and services in a rapidly expanding business environment

• Intellectual capacity to understand most complex problems and explain them in simple terms to business users

• Knowledge (experience of 5 years+ is highly desirable) of the following technology stacks:

  • Networking and Firewalls (LAN/WAN design, BGP, TCP/IP, UDP protocols, Cisco/Checkpoint/Stonegate)

  • Virtualization (VMWare)

  • SAN based storage (EMC, NetApp, HP)

  • Linux stack: Centos, Nginx, WSO2

  • System provisioning, configuration and monitoring(Spacewalk/Puppet/CfEngine, PXE, Zabbix, OSSEC/TripWire, NTP, SVN/Git)

  • Automation of system provisioning, configuration (OS/VMs/middleware/proprietary stack) and deployment processes

Qualifications:

• University degree in technical subject – physics, mathematics, computer science or engineering, 2:1 is highly desired
