Job Description

This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity where you’ll be responsible for leading, influencing and delivering a range of sustainability-focused initiatives. Your experience and expertise will support our team to progress with the drive and pace we need to, and to a high standard. Work will range from helping to shape long-term road maps, engaging the business and other stakeholders to effect positive and tangible change, and getting amongst the delivery of a range of work from the big, transformational things and right down to helping our people make sustainable decisions in every-day choices. You’ll be relied on to deliver on a range of reporting requirements and you’ll have the experience to pick these projects up with passion and confidence.

You’ll also be expected to collaborate on the delivery of a range of work programmes to increase capability in areas like sustainable sourcing, renewable asset construction, meeting our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) expectations including reporting, and reaching our company’s sustainable goals.


While a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable, what we’re really looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability, and eager to share their experience from similar roles to help our talented team set a faster pace and grow Meridian’s impact as a leader in sustainability.

You’ll have the capacity to understand the larger context and turn relevant insights into practical solutions for the business, both big and small. Working in an agile mindset, you’ll be an excellent communicator and you’ll have an engagement style that is both constructive, influential and outcome-orientated. You invest the thinking and time to make sure there is clarity on what matters most, and invest your time accordingly.

Ability and enthusiasm to deliver Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Climate Disclosure Project (CDP), and other corporate reporting pieces is essential. Experience in carbon accounting, sustainable infrastructure development and sustainable sourcing is advantageous. An understanding of Te Ao Māori and/or ability to engage in Te Reo is also advantageous.
