Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter for a fixed-term contract position in Gaborone, Botswana. The ideal candidate will join our team to work on various residential and commercial projects, contributing their expertise to deliver high-quality carpentry work.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials needed and installation procedures
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wooden structures and materials according to project requirements
  • Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, flooring, and cabinetry
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other wooden structures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and procedures
  • Collaborate with other construction professionals to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met
  • Estimate material and time requirements for projects
  • Maintain and repair carpentry tools and equipment
  • Adapt to various work locations around Gaborone as required by different projects

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in carpentry preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in carpentry, with exposure to both residential and commercial projects
  • Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment
  • Strong skills in blueprint reading, woodworking techniques, and precise measurements
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA) are a plus
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in Botswana
  • Experience working with local wood types and materials
  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality and efficiency
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy materials
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various work sites in Gaborone
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
