Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW/SUMMARY
The Director of Supply Chain Operations is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the US supply chain strategy. Many of the functions of the Supply Chain are outsourced to a Third Party Logistics (3PL) provider. This position includes responsibility for manufacturing planning and logistics as well as product distribution. Initially, the Director of Supply Chain Operations will assist in building the Supply Chain strategy business model, develop supply chain management processes and those of its supply chain and distribution partners. Subsequently, this leader will provide input to strategy creation and implement the appropriate strategy and logistics systems for the business as the organization prepares for commercialization and then work with Manufacturing to oversee the start of commercial production and product launch. The Director of Supply Chain Operations will manage the development and maintenance of the supply chain as necessary to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of the value chain. The leader of Supply Chain Operations will ensure that supply chain policies and procedures are in concert with all regulatory requirements, the quality systems of supply chain partners, and corporate goals and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Help define the Operations function and assist in establishing production planning and logistics systems.

Contribute to outsourced pharmaceutical operations in the areas of contractual relationships, production planning, materials flow, inventory, logistics, and continuous improvement programs. 

Establish and manage day-to-day business relationships and transactions with all supply chain partners.

Lead transfer of supply chain production planning, logistics, and release testing for the market. 

Work to ensure continuous improvement of cost of goods, yield, and throughput. 

Develop business agreements with supply chain partners in collaboration with senior management and the legal department. 

Lead the collaboration with Supply Chain partners to effectively and rapidly resolve problems. 

Lead the development and implementation of a supply chain risk management strategy. 

Work with the Director of Technical Operations and Director of Product Development in the technology transfer of new products into the supply chain and in capacity planning.  

Qualifications

Education:
BS or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline; MS is preferred.

Professional Experience:
Requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in Supply Chain Operations in pharmaceuticals, biologics, or bio-pharmaceuticals. 

At least 5 years of experience in management with at least 3 years of experience managing operations in an outsourced manufacturing environment. 

Experience with “cold chain” and Specialty Pharmacies is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:
In-depth knowledge of cGMP’s, cGCP’s, QSR’s, and other relevant regulations in US. 
Bias for action and sense of urgency. 

Strong skills in leadership, communication, project management, and budget management. 

Willingness to travel up to 25 percent.
