Job Description
The London News Bureau plays a key role in providing international news coverage and supporting overseas field operations. This is a dynamic 24/7 environment where flexibility, positivity, resilience, and a passion for technology are essential.
The Technology Support Specialist will provide both IT and Broadcast Engineering support, ensuring our editorial and production teams can deliver world-class content quickly and reliably. The role demands a broad technical foundation across IT systems, networking, and media technology, with the ability to troubleshoot, cross-train, and operate in high-pressure, breaking-news scenarios.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide first- and second-line support across IT, Broadcast, and Telecoms systems in London and internationally.
- Deliver end-to-end support for production systems and related newsroom workflows.
- Support core IT systems including desktops, laptops (Windows & macOS), servers, Office 365, VPN, security tools, and mobile device management.
- Maintain and troubleshoot networking, routing, firewall concepts, and acceleration protocols.
- Provide on-site and remote support for news production environments, including breaking news deployments and field operations.
- Administer and support collaboration tools.
- Track and document issues through to resolution, ensuring timely communication with engineering management and production clients.
- Interface with vendors/manufacturers to escalate and resolve issues; contribute to bug reporting and system improvements.
- Deliver training and documentation for both technical and non-technical users.
- Participate in a rotating schedule providing coverage across a 7-day operation, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime as required.
Qualifications
- Degree, certification, or equivalent in Computer Science, Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, System Integration, or relevant technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in IT and/or broadcast technology support within a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across both hardware and software.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage priorities independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical information to all levels.
- Strong customer focus, responsive and solutions oriented.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Familiarity with network domains, Active Directory, group policies, and OS security.
- Knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, macOS, and Apple iOS administration.
- Experience with virtualization technologies.
- Exposure to Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Familiarity with mobile device management and security tools.
- Experience supporting international field operations, with the ability to work under pressure in breaking news situations.
