Job Description
Telemundo Arizona (Phoenix/Tucson) is looking for a dynamic, aggressive, and digitally savvy Photojournalist / Breaking News MMJ who thrives in high-pressure environments and is passionate about storytelling that informs and engages our audience in real time.
This is not a traditional photographer's role. This is a hybrid visual journalist and on-camera reporter who can capture the moment, verify facts, and deliver compelling live and recorded reports under tight deadlines.
Job Summary
The Photojournalist – Breaking News MMJ is responsible for shooting, editing, and reporting breaking news stories across all platforms, including on-air, digital, and social media.
This role requires strong editorial judgment, speed, accuracy, and creativity, with the ability to go live, report on camera, and produce high-quality visual storytelling that meets NBC News and Telemundo standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Breaking News & Field Reporting
- Respond urgently to breaking news and developing stories, often as the first journalist on scene.
- Deliver live reports and on-camera updates with professionalism, clarity, and authority under pressure.
- Report only confirmed and verified information from official sources, maintaining the highest journalistic standards.
- Provide continuous updates across platforms, including TV, streaming, and social media.
Visual Storytelling & Production
- Shoot and edit video for VOs, VOSOTs, packages, and digital-first content, including vertical video.
- Use creative stand-ups and “show the moment” storytelling techniques to bring viewers closer to the story.
- Produce Point-of-View (POV) and immersive content that captures urgency and authenticity.
- Ensure high-quality execution through effective use of camera, lighting, sound, and editing.
Multiplatform Content Creation
- Create and publish content for broadcast, OTT/FAST channels, websites, and social platforms.
- Adapt storytelling style for the general audience, with a particular focus on Gen Z and Millennial audiences, prioritizing speed, and engagement.
- Collaborate with producers and digital teams to optimize content for reach and impact.
Technical & Operational Excellence
- Operate ENG cameras, live trucks, bonded cellular devices, and mobile streaming equipment.
- Edit content using non-linear editing systems (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, or similar).
- Maintain constant communication with the assignment desk, producers, and newsroom leadership.
- Execute live shots and field production with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a photojournalist, MMJ, or breaking news reporter.
- Proven experience with live reporting and/or on-camera presence.
- Strong background in non-linear editing and storytelling under deadline pressure.
- Experience operating live trucks, streaming/backpack systems, and field production gear.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and digital publishing tools.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be willing to work in Phoenix and/or Tucson, Arizona.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to lift and carry 25–50 lbs. of equipment for extended periods.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must be 18 years or older and authorized to work in the United States.
