Job Description
Position Description for Project Manager
Approach and Scope
The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for managing software development projects, utilizing and adhering to Project Management best practices and established department policies, and ensuring successful completion of projects. The Project Manager oversees all projects to provide project management support to the Department. The incumbent communicates with customers on an ongoing basis to review project requests, assess project scope, facilitate project prioritization, solidify project requirements, provide status updates, and plan, schedule and coordinate project tasks and deliverables. The Project Manager utilizes formal project management techniques to lead project teams through the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The incumbent also utilizes negotiation skills to establish cost-effective contracts with solution providers as needed.
Work to be Performed
Serve as Project Manager, utilizing and adhering to Project Management best practices and established department policies.
Ensure development and distribution of quality project-related documentation to all interested parties, including project plan and schedule, project charter, communications plan, requirements document, design document, deployment plan, test plan, maintenance transition plan, and notification of project end.
Scope and allocate resources for assigned projects based on historical information, input from other staff, and general understanding of project tasks
Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge
Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, may have an advanced degree; 3 to 5 years of experience as a Project Manager. Certifications such as PMP are desirable. Strong analytical skills, data modeling and logical database design with Erwin or equivalent data modelling tool, Microsoft Office, knowledge of SDLC, process modelling, UML, Visio or equivalent modelling tool. Familiarity and experience with screen mock-ups, prototyping, and wireframes.
