Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a commercially focused Legal Counsel to join our small legal and compliance team of five; this role will be based in Port Melbourne.  In this role you will provide advice on general corporate law, commercial law and technology agreements, negotiate and draft client and supplier contracts, and identify and manage legal risk across various areas. You will use your professional judgement and significant experience to:

  • Provide expert legal advice for NEXTDC's operations, negotiation and risk management, including the review, preparation and amendment of relevant legal documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with key staff in your assigned business units and other areas of the organisation
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of NEXTDC's operations, technologies and products/services
  • Provide legal advice that is accurate, practical and easy to understand to non-legal staff
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for staff on relevant legal issues

Qualifications

About You

You will be a savvy influencer with strong commercial acumen with a flair for service agreement negotiation.

You have an outstanding ability to build and maintain internal stakeholder relationships. As a trusted advisor you will have a proven track record of coaching and influencing non-legal staff about legal concepts and issues.   

In addition to your Bachelor of Laws and Australian solicitor appointment you will bring with you 4-7 years of post-admission experience in a well-regarded firm or corporation. A background in commercial and IT/telecommunications law will be highly regarded.
