Founded in 1946, the 83-member orchestra is today the largest performing arts nonprofit in the state of Tennessee. Job Description

Reports to: Orchestra Personnel Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Orchestra Personnel Manager
  • Attend orchestra services (will include evenings and weekends) as assigned maintaining compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and enforcing work rules
  • Act as a liaison between management and orchestra personnel
  • Field complaints, problems and requests from the players
  • Issue contracts to all extras/substitute musicians
  • Assist in the managing of all personal leave requests
  • Maintain men’s white pops coats and manage rentals for extras/substitute musicians
  • Coordinate NSO auditions; answer related correspondence, create audition mailings, music preparation with the library, maintain candidate database, schedule of candidates, and assist in the running of auditions
  • Coordinate bus sign up with Operations Coordinator for all run-outs and/or manage mileage reimbursement
  • Manage requests for external work opportunities for musicians (extra gigs and private lessons)
  • Work with Box Office Manager on all comp ticket vouchers and distribute to musicians
  • Manage OPAS (Orchestra Planning and Administration System) and produce personnel reports when necessary

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with formal musical training; 1-2 years of experience in Orchestra Management or performance in an Orchestra; or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret union contracts
  • Ability to work as a team member with a positive, helpful attitude in developing creative responses and solutions to needs and issues
  • Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to maintain the strictest of confidence as needed
