Job Description

General Summary of the Position 

The primary responsibility of the Survey Crew Chief is to supervise and perform boundary, topo, and ALTA surveys, as well as construction stake-out for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and transportation projects. Based in Wayne, most of our work is in Southeastern, PA and Southern, NJ. The successful candidate will assist our land surveyors and crew chiefs with field projects.   

Essential Functions 

• Responsible for overall supervision of Survey Instrument Department 

• Evaluates survey data for accuracy and sufficiency, and ensures compliance to applicable regulations and standards related to survey’s, plats, plans, boundary calculations, land descriptions, etc.  

• Knowledge and experience with Trimble Robotics, collectors and GPS equipment, a plus. 

• Ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs. and stand for long periods of time outside and in challenging work environments. 

• Processes survey data, including the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimensions of land features and boundaries. 

• Creates accurate 3D surfaces. Creates point files, linework files, sketches and cut sheets for survey crews. 

• Produces CAD drawings to include topography, title and tree surveys, coordinate control plans, and subdivision plats. Prepares survey plats and drawings, land descriptions and subdivision plans. 

• Identifies problems and recommend solutions to supervisor(s), resolve questions, plan, coordinate, and executes work in a timely and cost effective manner.  

• Performs other related duties as assigned. 


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics: 

• Prior supervisory experience in similar role. 

• Experience performing survey and land development drafting 

• Competent in mathematical, geometry and trigonometry skills.  

• Field experience in land survey is a plus 

• Organizational skills to schedule work and accomplish goals on projects within budget and time.  

• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record 

• Associates or Bachelors in Land Surveying related field a plus, HS Diploma required.

Work Context 

• Willing and able to work in the field as well as the office  

• May be exposed to all weather conditions when visiting a project site. 

• When visiting a site, will be required to wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, or hard hats.
