Job Description

We are seeking candidates for a part-time Farm and Building Maintenance Associate position. This is a part-time position at NNM working to support the school’s urban farm infrastructure. The successful hire will assist in the physical maintenance and enhancements of the farm, and other hands-on farm-related work. Other responsibilities will include some cleaning and maintaining the school campus, within and around the building and other designated areas. 

Schedule:

  • Availability to start ASAP
  • One part-time position is available:
    • 20 hours per week - hours to be mutually agreed upon; Monday to Friday during the day time hours

Specific responsibilities & duties include:

  • Assist with maintenance of NNM farm and garden spaces including the rooftop garden, playscape, Urban Farm Room and other related areas 

  • Plant, grow and harvest crops on 4-season urban farm with an eye to maximum yield of food, fibers, and medicinal plants. 

  • Build and enhance skills necessary to maintain a complete Permaculture system, including livestock, raised beds, polyculture of edible perennials, irrigation system, water management, indoor grow labs, and composting programs. 

  • Work with supervisor and others to evolve knowledge and skills as the environment changes and develops 

  • Assist with general facilities cleaning and maintenance as directed

  • Assist in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop, and rubber surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways - this includes removal of trash, debris, snow and ice

  • Help maintain a safe working and learning environment for all students, staff, parents and visitors

  • Support and facilitate work with farm volunteers and community members throughout the year

  • Contribute to an atmosphere of congeniality and teamwork in the school 

  • Participate in professional development to enhance skills related to teaching and farm maintenance

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, or work experience equivalent
  • Prior experience with gardening, sustainable agriculture, and/or permaculture
  • Prior experience with building maintenance or cleaning a plus
