Job Description

New Light Technologies, in partnership with Abt Associates, are hiring for an exciting position in the Washington DC area building one of the nation’s premier public sources of detailed data and analytics about the U.S. economy and labor market! We are seeking an data Analyst to join an multi-disciplinary team of talented and dedicated professionals in a variety of fields including Economics, Statistics, Geography, and Computer Science on-site at the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland. The Analyst will work chiefly in supporting the development of key economic data products produced by the Census Bureau's Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamic’s (LEHD) Program, namely the Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) and OnTheMap.

Key Responsibilities

The Analyst will work closely with Ph.D. economists, geographers, and graduate student interns to translate core research into enhancements to the public use data products described above. The Analyst will also work to develop data quality tests, identify new issues with the micro data or research implementation, recommend solutions, and often lead implementation of solutions to data issues. The Analyst will also prepare reports on the economic impact of current events for U.S. Department of Commerce staff using the LEHD data, respond to data questions from the user community, and give presentations about the data at conferences.

 Skills Prerequisites

• Experience analyzing complex data, and advanced proficiency in at least one statistical programming language, ideally SAS.

• Experience with data evaluation and integration; data cleansing, standardization, un-duplication; ETL, data processing, data warehousing; database design and RDBMS.

• Work or research experience analyzing large complex data sets or using administrative micro data is highly desirable.

• Social, demographic, economic data background helpful 

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment 

• The ideal candidate has good communication skills, have a strong willingness to learn, ability to work well in teams, and to present complex information in an informative and digestible manner.

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS with 3 - 5 years of experience OR MA/MBA (Entry Level) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and must successfully complete a federal government security clearance process.
