Job Description

The Work

NewsCred is looking for a Design Director to lead all aspects of design from the UX & aesthetics of our products and brand.  The ideal Design Director collaborates frequently with colleagues from Research & Development and Marketing as well as directly with customers.

About You

You’re a senior design professional who has experience directing both team projects and managing external resources, you are ready to lead and mentor a team of your own while still rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty when needed.

You have a passion for design in all aspects of life and never met a usable interface you didn’t love. You relish the idea of multi-tasking and collaborating closely with team members and stakeholders to develop original and innovative design concepts, while watching over the overall direction of NewsCred’s distinct user experience. You have a unique, impeccable design aesthetic and consider it your duty to share your expertise with the team.

You can work at “startup speed” and work autonomously, while knowing when and how to escalate.  

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and mentor global design team of Product and Marketing designers

  • Lead teams in developing strategies and insights that lead to proprietary user centered experience designs; focus on the big picture

  • Principally own aesthetic direction of our product and brand

  • Mentor designers regularly and grow/manage talent

  • Build and maintain a design team structure and process, culturally and collaboratively

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • 5-7 years experience in creative, product focused design

  • 3+ years experience leading and managing designers

  • Hands on expertise in developing UX and visual design solutions for web & mobile applications, marketing websites and print materials (including HTML/SASS/JS)

  • Secondary UX skills in Interaction Design, Front-End Development, or Copywriting are desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent experience

  • Understand user experience and information architecture principles and process (utilizing sitemaps, page flows, wireframes and prototypes to guide design concepts)

  • Experience working within an agile environment
