This position is a project funded limited term role expected to last 39 months.What's the role?

As an Application Development Sr. Specialist, you will develop integrated solutions, modernizing, consolidating and coordinating independently-designed applications to meet business needs. Partnering with Architecture and in keeping with development best practices, you will analyze business/functional specifications to deliver quality applications/systems while minimizing cost and optimizing maintainability. In converting high-level architectural design into detailed application design. Above all, you are a strategic thinker; you take ownership of issues, moving between diverse tasks with cooperation and persistence to motivate and bring out the best in those around you.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

1. Responsible for developing and deploying integrated solutions aimed at modernizing, consolidating and coordinating the independently designed applications across the enterprise in order to meet business needs.

2. Accountable for understanding business/functional specifications, completing analysis, partnering with Architecture to determine design and delivering the development of quality applications/systems in order to minimize cost, support maintainability and comply with development best practices.  Includes establishing development environments.

3. Accountable for converting high level architectural design to a detailed application design; may include software product evaluation and buy vs. build recommendations.  Also includes efficient reuse of existing components.

4. Accountable for understanding how applications, legacy systems, and application infrastructure, which may be currently operating on multiple platforms, work together to meet enterprise requirements.  Accountable for assessing the impact of change on applications/systems to support and maintain performance and availability. 

5. Accountable for providing or validating solid estimates per the statement of work or requirements in order to fit the estimating level of confidence within scale and scope as required.  Includes creation of detailed project plans for the development effort.

6. Accountable for preparing, validating and maintaining application/systems documentation inclusive of transition plans, blueprints and business application functionality in order to facilitate knowledge sharing. 

7. Accountable for coaching and mentoring around core accountabilities including development methodologies and patterns, standards, processes and application technologies in order to bring efficiency, consistency and maintainability to applications.

 

 

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in application integration and development
  • Possesses advanced skills and knowledge of development methodologies across various technologies that includes both mainframe and distributed application platforms.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to logically analyze and creatively solve complex issues independently
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written to multiple levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive for results through others
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels throughout the enterprise
  • Proven ability for influencing current enterprise standards, industry standards, technologies, methodologies and best practices
  • Exposure to project management

Desireable skills:

  • Mainframe/Changeman experience or the ability to quickly get up to speed on this environment a plus.
  • SAS experience or an ability to quickly get up to speed on this language a plus
