What's the role?
In this full time salaried role, you are responsible for the analysis, negotiation, and placement of insurance requirements for new mortgage loans involving but not limited to: NM as the sole lender, multiple lenders and tenants, and multiple use facilities.  Accountable for establishing and monitoring the appropriate level of insurance on deals, and signing off on the evidence of insurance prior to all loan closings. Integrates knowledge of insurance, construction, and legal contracts, to identify solutions to support Real Estates’ strategies, while minimizing risk to the Company. Coordinates the placement of insurance for real estate equity investments owned by joint ventures. Acts as a backup to the Assistant Director of IRM for all coverage’s purchased by the Company.  Responsible for negotiating and resolving the settlement of first party property claims and third party liability claims including lawsuits arising from the real estate investment portfolio that are covered under the Company’s insurance programs. Establishes and refines processes and procedures for the improvement of workflow and accuracy for Real Estate closings and renewals.  Acts as a resource for office staff.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Insurance or Risk Management or equivalent experience and completion of Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation or Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
  • Ability to negotiate contractual requirements related to insurance, indemnification and waivers of subrogation provisions with third parties.
  • Minimum eight years of experience as a property and casualty underwriter, property and casualty broker or risk management.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages and policies for those exposures that arise from a large real estate portfolio.
  • Ability to negotiate contractual requirements related to insurance, indemnification and waivers of subrogation provisions with third parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze the terms of a complex contract and/or loan to identify exposures to insurable risks and recommend appropriate options to mitigate or reduce risk exposures.
  • Three years experience in handling General Liability and/or Property claims with an emphasis on complex and litigated claims.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communications in dealing with all levels of management within the Company and Field.
  • A high degree of interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills are critical.
