What's the role?

Advance your writing, communication planning, project management, networking and organizational skills in the fast-paced corporate communications environment at Northwestern Mutual. Work with multiple Communications department team members to sharpen your editorial skills, write stories for publication, help plan and execute companywide events, and provide added support for wide-ranging projects and digital channels. Develop an understanding of the important role of communications in the rapidly evolving financial industry and the vital role you can play to help employees stay informed and inspired.

 

Position Hours: 20 hours per week during school year; potential to expand to summer internship (40 hours per week) depending upon work needs

 

Basic Function: Contribute to the development and execution of internal communications plans and content, which may include:

  • Research, write and publish news stories for internal Northwestern Mutual audiences (5,600+ employees and contractors).
  • Write, edit and review copy for other communication deliverables
  • Help execute a variety of companywide milestones and events designed to engage employees in building our future together
  • Help establish and manage project details such as production schedules and materials delivery
  • Support the communications team as needed in a variety of hands-on roles and projects

 

 

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

 

 

Junior or Senior standing is preferred with a Corporate Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, English or related major. Solid research, interviewing and news writing skills. High degree of copy editing accuracy using AP Stylebook. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines. High attention to detail. Event coordination experience a plus. Collaborative team-player anxious to contribute to a rapidly evolving company, while learning a lot and having fun along the way!
