What's the role?

Responsibilities of the intern may include: Learn key responsibilities of each role on the Field Accounting Team.

  • Review financial statements and other reporting to assess accounting quality for 300+ field offices.
  • Provide support to the Field Accounting Team on projects including, but not limited to, annual financial analysis; accounting quality consultations; and administration of internal controls for modified/cashiership offices.
  • Other special projects as needed. 

Skills and Competencies Required for Position:

  • Assists in providing telephone guidance and supplemental training to new or inexperienced field accountants in the Network Offices or District Network Offices.  This supplemental support includes accounting procedures, use of the Field Financial System, premiums in escrow systems, and other processes and/or systems
  • Analyzes and follows up on accounting data anomalies and inconsistencies found within and across Network Offices and District Network Offices. 
  • Monitors Network Office and District Network Office financial stability and consistency relative to Home Office accounting standards.  Proactively initiates remedies with field accountants to address inconsistencies, variances from recommended practices, and financial stability issues.
  • Assist specialists and senior specialists in providing technical expertise for year-end reporting and for all situations involving Network Office and District Network Office turnovers, mergers, and splits.
  • Analyzes and approves expenses submitted for Home Office reimbursements by the modified contract Network Offices; provides reports and recommendations regarding the progress of those Network Offices to the Agencies Leadership.
  • Planning and Organizing- Independently manages and prioritizes own time to meet agreed upon deadlines and productivity/ quality/ accuracy standards. 
  • Technical Expertise- Requires advanced knowledge of business/ office skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint). 
  • Problem Solving- Identifies and solves moderately complex problems. 
  • Customer Response- Understands and anticipates customer needs and identifies solutions. 
  • Excellent Communication- Uses effective communication skills to serve as a liaison. 
  • Teamwork- Promotes teamwork, shares knowledge and experience with others on the team, promotes teamwork by encouraging participation from all members of the team.

  • Student in junior year pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word required.
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to build rapport and gain acceptance at all levels within the Home Office and in the Field.
  • High degree of personal initiative and self-motivation.
  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability to analyze business problems and make decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning project, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
