Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company – Investment Intern

 

Internship Program Overview:  Students participate in summer intern program within the firm’s Wealth Management Company. Program objectives provide the student with hands-on experience through teamwork and collaboration, as well as individual work assignments. Interns participate in a wide range of learning and development activities including job shadows, attending various speaking engagements and events designed to expose interns to multiple areas of the firm. Interns also have an opportunity to network with senior leaders across the firm, attend various social and work-sponsored events and are also encouraged to engage in team volunteer opportunities within the community.

The Wealth Management Company (WMC) is responsible for crafting, maintaining, and implementing the Investment Philosophy on behalf of its clients. It is grounded in a long-term strategic asset allocation approach to investing while providing diversification by combining multiple asset classes, investment styles and managers to help minimize risk. The Investment Philosophy offers a common foundation and understanding between WMC, field representatives, and the clients that can be a grounding force in the most challenging of market conditions.

Role and Responsibilities

The Wealth Management Company summer intern will assist in performing due diligence and research for the NMWMC products.  This includes researching and creating reports for mutual funds, exchange traded funds, and stocks.  They will also participate in team meetings and calls with outside fund managers and research companies.  In addition, this position would assist, as needed, in gathering and compiling data for ad hoc research projects and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore/Junior standing in a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration majoring in Finance,  Investments or similar concentration such as Economics
  • Passion for the art and science of investing
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Extremely proficient in Excel
  • The ideal candidate would be interested in a career in researching and/or managing investments

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrate proficiency and interest in financial statement analysis
  • Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience with Bloomberg and Morningstar
