Job Description

At Northwestern Mutual, we believe relationships are built on trust. That our lives and our work matter. These beliefs launched our company nearly 160 years ago. Today, they're just a few of the reasons why people choose to build careers at Northwestern Mutual.

We're strong and growing. In a company with such a long and storied history, this may be the most exciting and important time to be a part of Northwestern Mutual. We're strong, innovative and growing.

We invest in our people. We provide opportunities for employees to grow themselves, their career and in turn, our business.

We care.  We make a positive difference in our communities. Nationally, thousands have benefitted from our support of research and programs to fight childhood cancer. Each year, our Foundation, employees and financial representatives donate time, talent and financial support to causes they're passionate about.

We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age or status as a protected veteran, or any other characteristic protected by law.

What's the role?

In this newly added role, critical to the strategy and success of the emerging team and initiative, you will report to and partner with the Director, Corporate Engagement, assisting with division strategy development, budget oversight and team building activities. You will also lead a team of Channel Managers, a Design and Multimedia Lead and contractors who will assist with strategy implementation and the resulting analytics. The approach is simple. We will build a framework starting with the broad company strategy and focusing on:

  • Who we want to reach and engage
  • Why we want to reach them -- what do we want from each engagement
  • What content is appropriate to address the Who and Why

The analytics portion of your role will be about results. We're looking for the right mix of content and behaviors. We don’t need you to be a seasoned analyst or IT expert. We anticipate leadership responsibilities to take a significant amount of your time, with light channel work and analytical tasks also needing attention.

Specific tasks will include:
  • Ensuring key stakeholders are engaged and informed through the company's channels - including overseeing effective day-to-day operation of the team's print, digital, and social properties.
  • Designing and implementing methods to collect, synthesize and analyze data in order to inform direction and decision making, and to shape/evolve channel strategies.
  • Leveraging data and digital innovation to guide the approach of informing and inspiring employees, Financial Representatives, and consumers.
  • Demonstrating the effectiveness/ROI of the channels strategy, identifying gaps and opportunities.
  • Working directly with your team to innovate and ensure the company stays at the forefront of technology and is communicating with key stakeholders using optimal methods.

Offerings are different channel to channel, however, methods include multiple magazines and web properties, internally and externally facing campaigns, social media, a network of internal electric signage and more.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

The ideal candidate for this role will bring a hybrid skillset: have experience using a multi-channel approach to reach audiences, be very good at interpreting and applying analytics, have strong marketing communications talent, outstanding leadership abilities, and the runway to continue to evolve your skills to make an impact over the short- and long-haul. A commitment to building effective and collaborative partnerships will also be critical to success.

 In addition, you will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Communications or a related field
