Job Description

Purpose: The position is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of learning solutions for delivery in classroom, web-based, and blended learning environments.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide learning solutions for training and development related to compliance training, personal effectiveness, and leader development.
  • Conduct needs assessments and design, develop, and deliver training and training materials.
  • Aid in the implementation and effective use of the full capacity of a Learning Management System (LMS) and a Learning Content Management System (LCMS) and several authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline.
  • Provide project management and guidance to ensure milestones are monitored and met.
  • Work with internal clients and subject matter experts (SMEs) to determine causes of performance gaps and address compliance requirements.
  • Design, develop, and implement learning solutions (i.e. web-based courses, instructor-led courses, job aids, videos, flash animations, audio recordings, etc.) for delivery in a classroom, web-based, mobile devices, and/or blended learning environment.
  • Evaluate training solutions and utilize improvement methodologies to improve them.
  • Coach and train team members on the use of performance consulting and instructional design methods.
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications: A master’s degree in Instructional Design or other equivalent curriculum that focuses on learning and development and a minimum of five years of relevant experience working in a team environment developing web-based, classroom and/or blended learning solutions, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience are required.

preferred qualifications: An advanced degree in instructional design or equivalent curriculum is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience with authoring tools for web-based learning in an industrial or government setting (Articulate Storyline) and/or extensive working with an LMS is a plus. The incumbent will possess experience with Human Performance Improvement (HPI) Model (used by ASTD) or an equivalent method to determine causes of performance gaps and address them. Excellent computer skills with demonstrated working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint are required. Excellent interpersonal, consulting, oral and written communications skills in a multi-level, scientific environment are keys to success. The incumbent must possess the ability to coach others on the use of instructional design methods and tools and have the ability to interface effectively with all management levels within the project team and the organization. Experience delivering training (classroom or blended format) is required. The incumbent must be reliable, self-motivated, and focused on high-quality delivery of work products and possess superb organizational and time management skills.

Work Direction and Interfaces: Position reports to the Learning Science and Instructional Innovations Group Leader. Interfaces with headquarters sponsors, customers, administrative staff, managers and visitors to ORNL.
