We are the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority. Our mission is to conserve the natural environment, support agriculture and connect people to nature by protecting open spaces, natural areas, and working farms and ranches for future generations.

We have protected over 20,000 acres of natural and agricultural lands in Santa Clara County. Our agency operates a network of open space lands to manage and conserve natural resources and provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and equestrian uses.

Job Description

You are a hard-working and motivated individual with experience supervising a team of four or more. You enjoy being outdoors and working with your hands. You are capable of performing and supervising a wide variety of semi-skilled carpentry, building and field maintenance duties using hand and power tools such as chain saws, mowers, sprayers and similar equipment as well as performing routine maintenance and repair of assigned tools and equipment facilities.

You are a driven individual, who will use common sense and a strong personal commitment to your work to lead a team of Open Space Technicians to success in supporting the mission of the agency. Your attention to detail is an asset in scheduling work and planning projects, as well as documenting the day to day activities performed by your team. You want to lead a team in working safely and efficiently. You have a desire to learn and grow, and want to share new information with your team.

You possess knowledge of basic operations, services and activities of an open space maintenance and construction program; basic principles and practices of maintenance and construction and resource management, standard safety, and basic trade skills in plumbing, electrical and carpentry. Your experience in open space field maintenance and resource management enables you to perform well under general supervision and respond to requests and inquiries as necessary. You enjoy engaging members of the public by communicating the mission, vision and goals of the OSA by answering basic questions and interacting with visitors and neighbors in a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful manner.

Qualifications

  • Supervising experience with a team of four or more.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or open spaces required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Must have experience in the use of chain saws, weed whip, brush cutters, pumps and other small power equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and to work in and around poison oak.
  • This position is required to take and pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
  • This position will be an afternoon/evening shift and will require weekend work.

Additional Information

Salary range begins at $34.67 per hour. Salary dependent on qualifications. This is an exempt full‐time position with excellent benefits.
