Company Description

ParadigmNEXT’s Website Designer is responsible for the conception and design of the companies and their clients major and minor web presences, including the primary website, satellite sites, and mobile presences. The designer is expected to keep current of website trends and best practices and to utilize those understandings to maintain and enhance clients' forward-facing online brand. Along with a partner designer, this position designs, builds, tests, and provides ongoing maintenance to ParadigmNEXT clients websites and applications. The designer must have graphic, layout, and coding, as well as strong communication skills to ensure successful exchanges with other web team members.

Job Description

Administration (10%)

  • Communicate with clients when appropriate to ensure project accuracy and timeliness
  • Analyze and maintain design consistencies across all clientsl web platforms
  • Provide exemplary customer service

Research/Analysis (20%)

  • Research and analyze appropriate design options for client requests; work with Director of Content Development to ensure client requests are consistent with institutional standards
  • Evaluate and enhance institutional web practices and solutions with attention to UI/UX principles
  • Evaluate and recommend subscription services and web tools
  • Keep current of website trends
  • Aid in the evaluation of marketing goals/successes

Design/Coding (70%)

  • Perform effectively as a member of the website team, including the ability to build, fix, and enhance web-related applications
  • Build high-quality, line-based mock-ups and wireframes
  • Translate proposed graphic concepts to contemporary HTML/CSS (HTML 5/CSS3) standards
  • Create high-quality, contemporary design assets for web, as well as support for email, digital monitor signs, advertising, and other visual collateral
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Skills

  • Proficiency with XHTML/CSS (HTML 5 and CSS3 a plus)
  • Basic abilities with JavaScript
  • Familiarity with preprocessors (i.e., Compass, SCSS)
  • Ability to design and manipulate basic CMS systems, like WordPress and Drupal
  • Basic abilities in a LAMP environment (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver)
  • Contemporary design aesthetic

Knowledge

  • Applied understanding of UI/UX principles
  • Awareness of web browser limitations and current technologies
  • Knowledge of responsive website strategy, implementation, and design
  • Knowledge of modern coding standards (knowledge of accessibility standards a plus)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in design-related field or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in web design
