Park Avenue Center provides evidence based gender specific drug and alcohol treatment in south Minneapolis, Minnesota. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, our staff includes Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Licensed Psychologists, Registered Nurses, and a consulting Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to prescribe medications. Our robust Mental Health Team allows us to help clients address their various needs and our EAGALA certified staff enables us to provide unique experiential therapy in a calming countryside location. Job Description

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the RN Supervisor provides direction for staff observation of self-administered medications by clients. The RN Supervisor develops and maintains the policies and procedures for self-administration of medication by clients for the facility. The RN provides guidance consisting of the activities included in monitoring as well as establishing the initial direction, delegating, setting expectations, directing activities and courses of action, critical watching, overseeing, evaluating, and changing a course of action.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; coordinating work schedules; developing personal growth opportunities.

2. Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

3. Develop policies and procedures for medication administration or assistance with self-administration of medication or both.

4. Provide supervision of the Park Avenue Center Observation of Self-Administration of Medications (OSAM) policy.

5. Ensure compliance of Medication Observer staff training, review requirements, and maintain proper documentation.

6. Provide documentation to program administration of annual competency review of trained staff.

7. Provide oversight of the program by acting as a resource for questions about medication self-administration for specific clients on an as-needed basis.

8. Monitor documentation of client self-administration of medications, storage and disposal of client medications and use of emergency and over-the-counter medications weekly.

9. Serve as the point of contact for any medication errors and document resolution of medication errors in medication error form.

10. Act as a consultant, when requested by Park Avenue Center staff, on any client for assessment of his/her ability to manage self-administration of medication safely; this includes conference on any schedule II-V medications that are identified in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

11. Act jointly with the trained medication staff to dispose of medication that meets the Park Avenue Center guidelines for disposal.

12. Monitor “as needed” medication documented use weekly and suggest physician referral for evaluation of frequent use of said product.

13. Serve as approver for “as needed” client medication – outside of the medications exempt from this as listed in the OSAM policy.

14. Review and co-sign med changes weekly.

15. Conduct monthly medication safety lectures for the clients in the Co-Occuring Disorders program and facilitate other groups or lectures as needed.

16. Maintain and update the Staff Medication Resource Manual, which is kept in the medication room.

17. Provides supervision as defined in part 9530.6435.

18. Maintain monthly on-site supervision or more often as warranted by client health needs and maintain records of said monthly on-site meetings with trained staff.

Qualifications

1. Must be licensed in the State of Minnesota as defined in Minnesota Statues, section 148.171 subdivisions 14 and 15.

2. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to achieve outcomes.

3. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and present a positive, professional image.

4. At the time of hiring, must be free of chemical use problems for at least the two years immediately preceding and sign a statement attesting to that fact.

5. Must pass a background check.
