Clients we serve typically struggle with multiple barriers including mental illness, homelessness, financial problems, legal issues, and an overall lack of emotional support. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, our staff includes Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Licensed Psychologists, Registered Nurses, and a consulting Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to prescribe medications. Job Description

Under the supervision of the Billing Manager, the Billing Specialist is a non-licensed professional in a substance abuse treatment facility who audits attendance, ensures funding is secured and is the first point of escalation for complex billing and time entry matters in the department.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Verify and enter client group and individual attendance into the Electronic Health Records system (Procentive) ensuring accuracy and compliance
  2. Work with internal partners (i.e. Assessors and Counselors) and payers to verify or obtain funding for clients and ensure accuracy of funding details.
  3. Maintain regular communication with Billing Office Manager and Clinical Staff regarding client data pertinent to records and the billing function.
  4. Complete and/or monitor accurate and timely data in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Normative Evaluation System (DAANES).
  5. Complete monthly insurance verifications or changes using state MN-ITS system or Procentive. When changes occur, work with Clinical Staff to complete necessary paperwork and obtain new authorizations in a timely manner, avoiding non-coverage and non-payment.
  6. Submits insurance claims to clearinghouse or individual insurance companies electronically.
  7. Follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or rejected claims and resubmitting the claims as necessary.
  8. Prepare appeal letters to insurance carriers when not in agreement with claim denials. Collect necessary information to accompany appeal.
  9. Contribute to department process improvement ideas, training and implementation.
  10. Responsible to provide quality assurance for billing data.
  11. Maintain professional relationship with clients while following a code of ethics.
  12. Ensure that program administrative operations are conducted in compliance with all pertinent local, state, and federal laws as well as all other mandated requirements
  13. Know and comply with client rights, outlined in part 4747.1500 and of staff responsibilities.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred.
  2. Computer literacy required.
  3. Previous experience with an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system or computer billing system strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with billing experience in Procentive.
  4. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to achieve outcomes.
  5. Must have analytical, data entry, mathematical and problem solving skills.
  6. Must have a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality.
  7. Must be able to maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and business community at large.
  8. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and present positive professional image.
  9. At the time of hiring, must be free of chemical use problems for at least one year immediately preceding and sign a statement attesting to that fact.
