In line with their ongoing restructuring they seek a talented and innovative Chief Financial Officer that is strategically and technically sound in financial analysis.

Job Description

Strategy

  • Work with the executive management team on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the executive management team based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team, and translate strategy into business plan
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with Company’s strategic plan
  • Engage the heads of marketing and Sales to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections
  • Lead group-wide management reporting/accounting and performance management activities
  • Plays an active role in the Finance community and industry and champions industry-wide financial soundness
  • Responsible for the profitability of the Finance Function
  • Analyse business, financial, and general operating information to identify trends and opportunities for development and produce management information to ascertain the viability of business developments Contributes to the decision of the financial and business viability of existing and new projects, products, and programmes

Financial and Operational Management & Reporting

  • Ensure that appropriate financial reporting systems, accounting systems, risk management, and internal control mechanisms are in place to enable effective financial management of the Group in line with statutory, regulatory, IFRS, internal requirements and global best practices
  • Ensure that all statutory financial statements and regulatory reports are prepared in accordance with IFRS and other statutory requirements, and in a timely fashion  
  • Manage and ensure efficient and seamless year-end processes and the submission of financial year-end statements
  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally – to all stakeholders
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and Company’s board of directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements
  • Manage the treasury function and banking operation, including implementation of best practice and pragmatic practices, policies and controls
  • Coordinate all internal and external audit activities
  • Support all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for Company’s employees
  • Oversee all regulatory bodies (NAICOM, SEC, NSE, PENCOM etc) compliance and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Oversee all tax authorities and tax issues at all levels and for all companies in the group, with a view to minimizing the Group’s tax liabilities

  • Manage liquidity risk and cash flow for policyholders and shareholders through

Team Management & Effectiveness

  • Develop and manage direct staff and guide larger multi-disciplinary teams outside of direct span of control
  • Creates a climate for optimal performance
  • Effectively engage with all other members of management team on all issues affecting Company’s ability to meet set targets and objectives
  • Drives operational excellence throughout area of supervision

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • First Degree (B.Sc.) and must be a fully Qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAN, ACCA, ICAEW)
  • Seasoned and mature leader with minimum of 10 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning in audit with a Big 4 Accounting Firm and/or within the Financial Services Industry
  • Strong Experience in Insurance Industry
  • Good knowledge and experience with IFRS
  • Familiar with interfacing with Regulators (CBN, NAICOM, SEC)
