Job Description

The Embedded Battery Algorithms Specialist will be involved from the beginning of the development life cycle to build and adapt battery behavioral models for use in embedded systems. The Embedded Battery Algorithms Specialist will also define test cases up front to assure model behavior issues surface early in the design process. The Embedded Battery Algorithms Specialist is expected to build working knowledge in software design, test, and debug for embedded systems, as well as lead algorithm verification projects, and deliver SW modules for production software releases. This engineer will be involved in development efforts for each release of the embedded software. You will join an enthusiastic team to deliver high-quality, robust software through collaboration and testing.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Develop advanced models for estimation of Li-Ion battery state of charge, state of health and power available.

· Develop control algorithms which assure maximum battery capability to the target application while preventing abuse conditions at the battery cell level.

· Characterize various battery cell products from a portfolio ranging in size, construction, and chemistry, use results to tune and validate algorithms.

· Implement and optimize algorithms in a MATLAB/Simulink environment for deployment on embedded control systems.

· Collaborate with customers to understand application needs and opportunities for efficiencies in their applications.

· Perform system and vehicle simulations to test and predict algorithm performance in customer applications.

· Document algorithm architecture, interfaces, performance and validation results for presentation to internal and external customers.

· Create test cases and build automation tools for performance testing of the algorithms.

Qualifications

· B.S. required M.S. preferred, in one of the following: Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering (with minor in Electrochemical).

· Minimum 4 years of relevant industry experience.

Key Competencies:

· Experience testing and modeling the behaviors of Lithium-Ion batteries.

· Experience in testing embedded systems in an automated HIL type of environment.

· Proficient in MatLab and Simulink modeling and code generation tools for embedded control systems.

· Proficient in software and hardware measurement and analysis.

· Understanding of real time processing systems and common issues.

· Diligent documentation keeping skills.

· Self-driven and adaptive personality, performing as both project leader and individual contributor as the situation dictates.

· Experience with lab setup, establishing of test lab equipment and processes.

· QA experience with embedded SW solutions, compliant with CMMI and/or Automotive SPICE is a plus.

· Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support on site customer testing, debug, or sales/proposal activities.
