Job Description

At our customers manufacturing facilities the Factory Technical Support Specialist is responsible for all new Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP) product support development work. This role requires integration with engineering, providing design guidance specific to serviceability and reparability. Additionally, you will:
- Perform project management activities associated with Customer Support Plan.
- Implement serviceability and reparability improvement strategies and incorporate into new product designs.
- Ensure integrity of global service/products by providing onsite support and new product development. 

- Work with other project managers and stakeholders across the enterprise to complete a wide range of product and customer support planning activities.
- Manage and improve existing customer and product support processes.
- Provide input to new product specification as it relates to customer and product support.
*Ensure customer needs are met by having the consultative sales approach.

Your role as a Factory Technical Support Specialist  requires you to install, design, develop and coordinate programs and systems of varying sizes and levels of complexity in order to provide customer service focused solutions.

International Travel is required to complete installation and support of our client's products. This is a client facing position where the Project Technician will offer software application support, system support, plant floor support, HMI support, and all around problem solving in addition to the requirements of the installation process.

The Factory Technical Support Specialist  must know MS Office Suite very well and have some computer programming skills. Knowledge of PLCs, networking, and manufacturing processes are important to success in this role. The ability to develop or modify programs using scripting languages, like JavaScript, is also important to success in this role.

The role of Factory Technical Support Specialist requires the technician to install, modify, develop and coordinate programs and systems of varying sizes and levels of complexity in order to provide customer service focused solutions. 

Other duties will include:

  • Traveling as needed for system installations, system support, IT Services or client visits at manufacturing plants. 
  • Employing Creative Problem Solving Methods to ensure customer needs are being met both short and long term.
  • Employing skills in programming, networking and systems analysis to ensure customer needs are being met both short and long term.
  • Securing opportunities to quote on customer requirements and relating those opportunities to Company leadership.
  • Establishing professional customer/vendor relationships with appropriate customer personnel (plant floor personnel, purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, management, or other key personnel).
  • Developing and maintaining service plans at the project and customer level in accordance with Company leadership. 

  • Coordinating any activity and resources (Product Development, Project Management, Engineering, and Executive) required ensuring project/solution targets and objectives are achieved and exceeded. 
  • Providing regular customer feedback (e.g. product feature requests) to Company leadership.
  • Actively participating in product development, project, staff and other meetings as required.
  • Carrying out other tasks/projects as required by Company management or member of the executive team.
  • Learning new technologies as they become available and participating in company discussions about the use of these new technologies for project and product development. 

Qualifications

What it Takes
We need excellent communicators, who thrive on solving problems and working in a team environment, but can be effective working independently as well. You must have proven analytical skills with strong mechanical aptitude. Ideally, you will have a bachelors' degree in engineering/technology or related discipline or equivalent interaction with customers in a product support role. In addition, we require:
- Project management skills

-Software development/Scripting Skills
- Basic understanding of Customer and Product Support Processes involving PLCs
- Understanding of the manufactuting industry or factory experience with regular interaction with engineering and design
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% in the U.S. and internationally

A strong candidate will also have:
- Technical support or training experience on the plant floor with Data Collection Systems

-PLC experience 

- Experience in the diagnosis and trouble shooting of IT systems/software and/or HMI systems 
- Experience working in the factory information systems industry with regular interaction with engineering, IT and Controls groups
- Experience working in a heavily process-centric role and ideally quality related experiences

  • The ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically, and make sound decisions quickly is necessary for success in this role.
  • In depth knowledge of and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite is also essential.
  • Some computer programming skills and understanding of the software development process is important in this role. Hands on experience with C++, C#, ASP, HTML, and SQL with SQL Server are a plus in performing in this role.
  • The ability to develop or modify programs using scripting languages, like JavaScript and VB Script, is also important to success in this role.

Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, HMI software and networking are beneficial to the performance of this job
