Role

The Project Engineer reports to the Director Engineering and is assigned duties on a project basis.  The incumbent will integrate business, operations, and engineering functions to ensure strategic projects and project quality goals for the Facility are met.  Additionally, incumbent will act as the Project Manager on assigned projects and will direct the activities of assigned personnel both internal and external as required to fully complete the project assignment.  He or She may be required to apply comprehensive engineering and business skills from several sources to complete the project or may direct the work activity of design engineers, project cost control support, technical service engineers, process control engineers and CAD designers, as required, to fully complete assignments. 

Duties & Responsibilities

·         Provides Project Management activities for Capital and Major Expense projects as assigned;

·         Maintains a mill area involvement in the setting of project priorities, incorporating engineering project work into daily production activities, while minimizing the impact of engineering on day to day operations;

·         Provide practical project engineering and design expertise utilizing incumbent’s education and training on all projects or sub-projects assigned. Completes necessary calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, etc. as assignment requires according to approved time schedule and engineering budget;

·         Communicates his/her project activities with other project team members and operations and support personnel to minimize conflicts and delays in project schedule;

·         Reports activity and cost status on assigned projects, analyzing results versus schedules, budgets, and desired operative objectives recommending corrective action for variances when required;

·         Assures that engineering output is compliant with existing statutory codes, company engineering standards, capital policy, and safety standards;

·         Maintains professional competence and knowledge of developments in processes, emerging technology and products through consultation with other company technical and professional personnel as well as industry peers.

Qualifications

·         Requires a Bachelors’ Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering with experience in a heavy industry facility through full time experience or co-op/internship terms, excellent mechanical aptitude, and strong analytical and technical skillsCapital and Major Expense project management experience related to Paper Machines & Converting Equipment is a plus; 

·         Experience with software such as SAP, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project, and AutoCAD;

·         Demonstrated ability and desire to work in a team environment;

·         Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communications and the ability to communicate effectively on complicated technical issues with diverse groups.
