The ability to envision and then design the way in which people experience products, services and content is one of the most inspiring and fulfilling aspects of being a designer that seeks to change the world. At Portable, we work on products that are reimagining the way in which people experience government, business and the internet in general. We are seeking a senior designer with experience with digital design to join our team and immediately start work on a series of client facing and external products.

The right candidate will provide work for clients as varied as the Department of Justice, Department of Innovation, Department of Foreign Affairs, Monash University, the National Australia Bank, the Department of Premier and Cabinet, along with a new breed of internet start-ups, as well as lead the growth of an internal product that has recently started to grow in momentum. You’ll tackle complex systems and use your experience and training in visual design, interaction design and user experience to develop intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use interfaces for not only the web but the physical world. 

You’ll leverage our team's extensive experience in Design Thinking, Service Design and User Centred Design to design user interfaces and deliver high quality work to clients who we respect and adore. You’ll also share the some of the same values as our team: Portable was recently awarded B Corp status and works with organisations and individuals looking to make a positive impact in the world.

Responsibilities

• Lead and champion design within the organisation
• Interface with clients, key stakeholders and end users to create engaging, beautiful and sought after work
• Conceptualise design outputs, create prototypes and effectively communicate these internal and external stakeholders
• Develop high level documentation to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
• Effectively leverage junior staff members to drive design quality, outputs and hit deadlines

Key Attributes

• A strong under confident communicator: you enjoy working with clients and with teams of people to generate and communicate ideas
• Analytical and Strategic
• Design oriented: you understand the fundamentals of design and aesthetics.  

• BA/BS degree in Design or complementary qualification (e.g. interaction, graphic, web, visual communications, product, industrial)
• Either a robust folio that reflects your experience OR recently completed folio examples that reflect that you are a superstar on the rise just needing the right guidance 
• At least 2+ years experience in key responsibility areas
• Ideally you have some deep experience outside of design in industries such as government, education, health or law.
