Job Description

The Lead Bench Technician makes sure that company procedures, standards and guidelines are followed for testing, repairing and maintaining PRG lighting equipment and tools in the Technical Services Department using set company procedures, standards and guidelines. 

  • Lead the Bench Technicians in day to day operation; receiving, sorting, storage, order pulling, kit creation. Test, repair and maintain PRG Lighting equipment using set company procedures and guidelines.
  • Supervise, as well as, perform the examining, repairing, trouble-shooting of in-coming equipment and preparing out-going equipment & ensure the quality of all equipment prepared in assigned area of responsibility meets or exceeds standards of performance defined by company guidelines.
  • Ensure the timely retrofit and upgrade of assigned equipment to meet current standards of performance set forth in technical bulletins and notices.
  • Complete the preparation of equipment in assigned area of responsibility in the specified time frame and order set by the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all equipment checked out in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Submit neat and orderly records of all equipment prepared in assigned area of responsibility. Submit records to Outbound Coordinator upon the completion of each task.
  • Load and unload trucks using set company safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Manage the inventory of spare sub-assemblies used in assigned area of responsibility. Return all bad assemblies on a daily basis.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluation.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Report to work at assigned time.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience required to lead a large department staff and keep them focused on the orders at hand.
  • Minimum 1 year work experience with lighting equipment repair and/or similar industry with proficiency in
    - Control of stepper motors and servo motors
    - IC drivers for Stepper Motors
    - Operation of switch mode power supplies
    - Repair principals of arc ballast for MSR and HTI lamps
    - Optical alignment principals for lamps, reflectors, and optical lens groups
    - High voltage and high current power sources both AC and DC
  • Must possess strong repair knowledge of equipment from the following manufactures: PRG; Vari*Lite; Martin; Robe; Aryton; High End; Strong; Barco; Clear Com; LeMaitre; Reel EFX; Clay Paky; Motion Labs
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills; must have experience in a very busy work environment to be able to keep up with changes to orders.
  • Clear verbal and written communication. Must have experience with heavy phone and email communication to Operations Team, internal customers and technical support contacts at manufactures. Fluency in English required.
  • Experience with soldering, electrical/electronic diagnostics and board level repairs.
  • Knows how to use Multi-Meter, Oscilloscope, read and understand schematics.
  • Knows how to use basic hand tools (hand drill, screw driver, wrenches etc.).
  • Knows PRG lighting equipment standards.
  • Experience in lighting rental shop and entertainment industry helpful.
  • Excellent attendance track record.

Education

• High School diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Training in equipment, tools and/or electrical repair helpful.

    - Ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
    - Spanish language skills are a plus.
