Job Description

Summary: The Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach works directly with, and reports to the Director of Sports Performance. Primary role is to help develop and implement a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all Queens Athletic teams, approximately 500 student-athletes. This position efficiently organizes a schedule for strength and conditioning workout times for each team. The Strength and Conditioning coach may work with an entire team during training sessions as well as with individual athletes. This position provides expert instruction in the use of weight machines, free weights, spotting techniques, and conditioning equipment and appropriately tailors programs based on the needs of the teams or individual athletes.

This is a full-time position that works a flexible schedule based on the needs of Queens’ teams and individual student athletes. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Under direction of Director, oversee student athletes’ exercise and weight training and activities, work with athletic trainers and coaches to build strength, improve flexibility, and assist in the rehabilitation efforts student athletes
• Ensure the health and safety of student athletes during all strength and conditioning activities
• Work with coaches and teams directly assigned by the Director
• Deliver strength training and conditioning programs using scientifically based principles to ensure safety of the student-athlete and effectiveness
• Assist the Director in developing and applying sports performance coaching techniques, overall team and individual player strategies
• Assist student athletes with individual performance and provide direction for improvements
• Provide Strength and Conditioning instruction and development for individual and team improvement, analyze athlete performance, prepare student-athletes for the highest possible levels of competition
• Adhere to all NCAA rules and regulations
• Develop, deliver and oversee weight room training
• Assist in maintaining the weight room, taking inventory, maintaining equipment and recommending upgrades as needed
• Assist in developing and implementing rehabilitation programs under the direction and limitations set forth by the treatment plan, under the supervising Athletic Trainer
• Maintain knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing sanctioned sports as it pertains to CARA related activities
• Participate in summer sport camps

Non-Essential Duties
• Other duties may be assigned as needed in support of Strength and Conditioning, Athletics and University goals

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in strength and conditioning at the collegiate level and demonstrated knowledge of exercise physiology and Kinesiology.
• SCCC certification, CSCS and USAW will be considered.
• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to quickly establish and nurture rapport and communicate with confidence regarding Strength and Conditioning.
• Proven track record of consistently modeling positive behaviors at all times
• Strong follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion
• Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
• Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel by personal vehicle and university-provided transportation to achieve objectives of the position

Work Conditions
• Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet requirements of the position, including early mornings, nights and weekends.
• Work in fitness center and office environment and outdoors, involving contact with students, staff, faculty, parents, service providers and vendors.
• Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions and may be stressful at times.
