Job Description


Summary
:  This full-time position is responsible for performing accounting functions, recording and reporting a variety of financial transactions as well as significant involvement in financial and management reporting.  This includes compiling financial information, processing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and involvement in the annual audit and tax return processes. This position reports to the Controller.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assemble and analyze data and transactions applying generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ensure timely, thorough, and accurate month-end close process.
  • Originate and input journal entries.
  • Provide information to faculty, staff and students; explain transactions; resolve accounting issues and discrepancies.
  • General ledger account reconciliations and analysis; including bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with tax return preparation.
  • Assist in yearend audit preparation.
  • Create process documentation and instructions.
  • Work alongside ITS staff on projects to create more effective and efficient procedures within the Finance Office.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and university information, adhering to FERPA and other applicable regulations.

Qualifications


Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • 4-6 years of general ledger accounting experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software and Windows-based applications; Jenzabar experience preferred
  • Demonstrated organization and follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Proven ability to convey complex accounting information in a concise, easily understood manner to a wide range of constituencies
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge and skills
  • Proven exceptional attention to detail and ability to consistently produce error free results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and track record of proactive communication
  • Proven ability to identify, define, analyze, and resolve complex problems
  • Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.​

Work Conditions

  • Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, high volume and may be stressful at times.
