Job Description

Summary

This position is responsible for implementing immediate and long-range strategies to increase giving for the McColl School of Business among alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and corporate/foundation sources. This position reports through University Advancement and maintains a relationship with senior leadership of the McColl School of Business. This position will also interact closely with and manage the development efforts of the McColl School Alumni Association Board and the McColl School Board of Advisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of University Advancement’s Annual Giving team in achieving overall university fundraising and participation goals. 

Development Responsibilities

  • Serve as Chief fundraiser for the McColl School Excellence Fund, the annual fund for the McColl School of Business. Mange the annual solicitation calendar, identification of donors and stewardship. 
  • Partner with the McColl School senior leadership team to engage constituents of the McColl School through best practices in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Manage a portfolio of 150 leadership level gift prospects.
  • Manage the McColl School’s annual fundraising golf tournament, which includes soliciting event sponsors and recruiting teams and players.
  • Manage and solicit sponsorships for the Carolinas Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Annual Giving and Alumni Relations teams as needed.
  • Provide support on University-related fundraising initiatives as needed. 

Volunteer Management Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the McColl School Alumni Association Board and accompanying committees. 
  • Serve as the development liaison for the McColl School Board of Advisors.
  • Support the Entrepreneurial Leadership Circle by coordinating monthly meetings and assisting with membership renewal. 

Strategic Communications Responsibilities

  • Manage the McColl School Excellence Fund pages of the Queens/McColl School website.
  • Coordinate with McColl School communications liaison to provide content for monthly Alumni & Friends email newsletter.
  • Maintain reports, queries, exports and individual records in the University’s centralized alumni/donor database, Raiser’s Edge.

Non-Essential Duties

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department goals.



Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required 

  • Ability to represent the university effectively to campus leadership and external audiences. 
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and perform independently as well as with a team.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational and time management skills. 
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint; ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information.
  • Experience with donor database management system, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
  • Ability to manage work projects from start to finish.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, as well as to accept directions on given assignments.
  • Excellent experience in fundraising, donor relations, alumni programming or related fields.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects with occasionally shifting priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, sense of humor, and enthusiasm.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong reasoning skills and the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to resolve problems.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with a variety of individuals at all levels, both external and internal to the university, including donors, alumni, students, faculty and staff.
  • Proven ability in taking initiative, multi-tasking and working well under pressure.
  • Flexibility and adaptability is required, as is a proven attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
  • Night and weekend work required to accomplish objectives of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Occasional local and overnight travel required

Additional Information

Work Conditions

  • Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions and may be stressful at times. 
  • Work may require occasional local and overnight travel.
