Director/Associate Chaplain, Pamela Davies Center for Faith and Outreach

Job Description

Queens University of Charlotte, a university related to the Presbyterian Church, USA, seeks a full time Director (Associate Chaplain) of the Pamela Davies Faith and Outreach Center. This position will be responsible for developing new programs for students of all faiths who want to explore their spirituality as it intersects with our world. The Director will need to have a call to work with emerging adults, an understanding of faith and moral development, a collaborative nature, good organizational skills, and an openness to interfaith dialogue and inclusivity. The Director should also be someone who has the vision and skills to develop and grow the programs in the Davies Center into a national model for faith and outreach.

Specifically, the Director (who will also be an Associate Chaplain) will develop and foster the Davies Fellows Program that will become a model of faith and outreach as we seek to work for justice in Charlotte and beyond. This program will involve working closely with our community partners establishing placements for students in the Davies Fellows Program, and the Director will also direct the theological and spiritual reflection with the students involved in the Davies Fellow Program. In addition, the Director will create and lead stateside and overseas mission trips. The Director will also oversee existing programs like “Room in the Inn” and will work with campus fellowship groups. The Director should also understand and be able to work collaborative with other programs and departments at Queens.

The Director/Associate Chaplain reports to the Chaplain of the University.

This position involves some evening and weekend responsibilities to meet objectives of the role. 

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • The ideal candidate will have a deep faith, an open and inclusive spirit, a desire to make a difference in the lives of college students, and a commitment to seeking justice in our world. 
  • 1-3 years’ experience post-graduate study.
  • Experience envisioning, developing and delivering programs for students of all faiths who want to explore their spirituality as it intersects with our world.
  • Experience working with and nurturing emerging adults in their spiritual journeys.
  • Must have a strong understanding of faith and moral development, and experience guiding emerging adults in same.
  • The ability and willingness to perform some evening and weekend responsibilities to meet objectives of the role. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills; ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential information and demonstrated willingness to uphold the highest ethical standards.
  • A Master of Divinity degree – or an advanced degree in theological studies -- is required.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Eye-Hand Coordination: Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, copier, calculator and other office equipment
  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Physical Strength: Will regularly be required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools and controls reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Work Conditions
  • Work in office environment involving contact with faculty, staff, students, executives, donors, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, high volume and may be stressful at times.
  • Work may require evening and weekend hours.
