Digital Learning Librarian

Job Description

Summary

Under the general direction of the University Librarian, the Digital Learning Librarian is responsible for developing a robust library instruction program that includes web-based content, course-specific instruction, and targeted learning objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In partnership and consultation with library staff and faculty, develops and revised library curricular materials, tutorials, and other digital learning objects for an array of disciplines and subject matter. Acts as the library liaison to distance education students and works with faculty teaching online classes to assist with library integration in the online learning environment. 
  • Provides leadership, training, and support for the design and use of online library-related instructions for students, faculty, and staff employing a variety of software. Advises librarians and library staff on the selection and deployment of appropriate instructional technology tools and software.   • Facilitates the integration and use of library instruction materials in course management systems and online environments. Ensures compliance with ADA guidelines and higher education standards. Develops and conducts assessment and usability studies of library instruction classes, material, and tutorials.
  • Works with faculty on requests to design and offer course-related/course-integrated information literacy instruction to students. Works with library colleagues to design, develop, deliver and assess outreach and instructional services to faculty, students, and staff to support the discovery and effective, efficient, and ethical use of research resources and tools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including collection management and liaison activities. 
  • Works a regular shift at the patron services desk. 

Non-Essential Duties

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience using online course software.
  • Knowledge of CampusGuides/LibGuides software and familiarity with other web-based content management systems. 
  • Working knowledge of the Association of College and Research Libraries’ Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and embrace emerging library-related software programs and technologies. 
  • Knowledge of general evaluation, assessment, and planning methods and strategies.
  • ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree, or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to adhere to a set schedule and work independently
  • Enthusiasm for electronic-based learning.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable working in a team environment.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Eye-Hand Coordination: Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, copier, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  •  Physical Strength: Will regularly be required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools and controls reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
