Job Description

SUMMARY

This full-time position is responsible for generating prospective adult students for enrollment in the adult undergraduate and graduate programs through Queens’ Hayworth School of Graduate and Continuing Studies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate prospective adult student leads by representing the university at community college events or monthly visits, college fairs, corporate offices, and other external events
  • Be knowledgeable of all program offerings and expertly communicate this knowledge
  • Engage with adults in such a way that they are encouraged to proceed with the inquiry process
  • Deliver comprehensive overviews and descriptions of Queens programs to both internal and external audiences
  • Counsel prospective students throughout the admissions process:
  • Handle telephone and walk-in inquires, assisting them with completing an inquiry
  • Interview prospective students, answering questions about university adult programs as well as assessing the student’s fitness for university adult programs
  • Review files for admission during high peak seasons; specifically nursing
  • Process all inquiries and stet future appointments
  • Conduct new student interviews with targeted efforts to collect information that would assist in determining a program
  • Accurately assess transfer of credit and provide unofficial transcript evaluation with new students
  • Participate in the planning and execution of special events including information sessions and orientations

Non-Essential Duties

  •  Other duties and special projects may be assigned as needed.


Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Higher education experience required
  • Preferred experience in sales, marketing, client management and/or admissions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, including the ability to quickly establish rapport with a wide spectrum of people, both external and internal to the university
  • Ability to conduct effective and efficient interviews with prospective students
  •  Excellent communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) and customer service skills
  • Proven ability to plan and make effective presentations to small and large groups
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new information
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives
  • Experience managing social media activity for a similar-sized organization preferred
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in experience and education

  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions – 75-100% of the time

Additional Information

Work Conditions

  • Work in office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions and may be stressful at times.
